A Guide to Striped Bass Fishing on Lake Mohave
Spanning over 67 miles along the Nevada/Arizona border, Lake Mohave is one of the best lakes in the Southwest to cast your reel. Anglers congregate here to catch several different kinds of fish including striped bass, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish and sometimes even rainbow trout.
Among the bunch, striped bass are the most common fish caught in these waters. There’s a good chance you’ll be reeling in a few yourself, but there are a few things you should know before you go striped bass fishing on Lake Mohave.

When to Go Striped Bass Fishing
Typically, the ideal time of year to catch stripers is April through November, peaking in October, however there is really no bad time to go. As far as time of day, anglers in Cottonwood Cove have found the best time to go striped bass fishing to be early morning when the light is low. Nighttime is also productive, if you prefer.
Where Striped Bass Tend to Bite
In the cooler months, striped bass like to hang out near the coves (especially by the powerlines) and off the points near Davis Dam. Fishing by boat is what’s recommended, but if you’re fishing from shore, find a cove with a drop off into deeper water.
In the warmer months, we suggest you hang out around the upper lake area, near where there is a current from the river coming out of the Hoover Dam. This area of the lake is cooler and offers a more consistent environment that fish love.
What Type of Bait to Use
We’ve found that stripers prefer bait such as anchovies if you’re fishing from the shoreline. If you’re fishing by boat we recommend using lures such as pencil poppers and Rat-L-Traps in silver and blue, preferably.
